Nurturing Families – A Local Charity We’re Proud to Support
Nurturing Families, formerly known as Mummys in Need, has been supporting children and caregivers across Aotearoa since 2012.
The charity was founded by Tayla Nasmith, who, at just 12 years old, recognised that many children in her community were going without life’s most basic necessities. Driven by a deep sense of compassion, Tayla created a Facebook page to connect families in need with donors who could provide immediate support.
What started with two part-time volunteers quickly grew into a trusted and impactful community service. Over the years, Nurturing Families has partnered with midwives, social workers, and community organisations — now helping up to 400 babies each month by providing essential items for children under 12.
In 2023, the organisation changed its name from Mummys In Need to Nurturing Families – a name that better reflects their mission to support all caregivers, not just mothers, and to respond to the needs of whānau during times of crisis.

Nurturing Families exists to ensure that every child has access to the essentials they deserve – and that caregivers are supported through life’s most challenging moments.
By working closely with families, donors, and community agencies, the organisation continues to make a meaningful impact across New Zealand. Their work is a powerful reflection of compassion, resilience, and the strength of collective care.
