Hi, First thing you need to do is make sure you are eating enough protein (fish, meat, chicken, legumes, seeds) as these are the foods that make you feel full (so you eat less). You should make sure that each of your meals contains protein. You also want to be sure to be snacking mostly on fresh fruits and veges as these are high in fibre, have a detoxing effect and are vital for long term healthy body weight management. Choosing cereals and grains that are wholegrain (i.e. brown) will also mean that your blood sugar levels are sustained so you will not have big peaks of insulin and therefore you will burn fat more effectively. On the exercise side of things, as long as your breast milk is well established I would consider doing a couple of higher intensity exercises such as maybe a light jog, swimming or aerobics if you are up to it a couple of times per week. Incorporating some light weight work into your exercises can also help to tone and build muscle and kickstart your metabolism. Last of all, RELAX, your baby is only 4 months old and losing baby weight is not a competition! Often the first year of motherhood is more a question of survival in terms of lack of sleep, learning all these new things and generally adapting to being a mum. Looking like a model is not a priority, keeping well, focusing on your fitness and health (rather than your weight) and enjoying your new baby should be the priority.
